For a role split across branches, name the base practice and explain when travel is expected. For a small animal role, tell us where overnight cases are transferred and what support is available at each site.
For veterinary employers
Whether you’re recruiting for a small animal practice, a mixed practice or a multi-site veterinary group, finding the right clinician requires understanding both the clinical workload and the practice environment.
Medica works with veterinary employers to identify and approach suitable professionals.
For an independent practice, tell us who will be on shift with the vet, what the routine caseload looks like, and where more complex cases are referred. If there is sole charge, set out who can provide backup and when.
For a veterinary group, identify the main site, any branch rotation and how the branches share clinical support. If the role includes leadership, explain which teams and decisions the vet will be responsible for.
For a permanent appointment, describe the regular rota, weekend frequency and out-of-hours commitments. For locum cover, specify the dates, shifts and caseload, and clarify what the incoming vet will need to handle independently.
For a role split across branches, name the base practice and explain when travel is expected. For a small animal role, tell us where overnight cases are transferred and what support is available at each site.
For Highland or island appointments, spell out the area covered, travel between sites, any ferry dependencies and accommodation options. Explain who shares call-outs and what backup is available.
For mixed or farm work, give the species split, farm-call radius and the weekend rota. For a candidate moving from Ireland, check UK registration and right to work separately.
Veterinary surgeons must be registered with the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) before practising in the UK. The application route depends on where the vet qualified. Employers must also verify the candidate’s right to work in the UK before employment begins.
